About
Words aren’t everyone’s cup of tea--but they’ve always been mine. When I was young, maybe 10 or so, a family friend would give me a list of random words (those big, pompous words we all WANT to use but never do) and a week to use all of them in a poem. I’d spend an entire day looking the words up in the dictionary, making lists of synonyms and adjectives, and thinking about how they are used. Then, I’d write. I’d take my week to plan, draft, delete, and recreate until I was ready to showcase my beautiful work of art.
While I didn’t become the renowned poet I thought I would, I did make a career out of language and writing, and my love of words only deepened. As a writing tutor and then writing center coordinator at various universities, I dug into purpose, feedback, and revision.
As a Ph.D. candidate in English with a concentration in Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse Studies, I studied not only the tangible aspects of writing but also the intangibles--how writing reflects our own values and experiences while connecting with the values and experiences of audiences.
I know the power of words. More importantly, I know the power of intentionally crafted words. I don’t just try to sell your products. I research your customers to understand their values and needs. I learn your brand and develop copy to showcase your company’s ethos.
